Tom DeLay Guilty In Money Laundering Trial

Happy Thanksgiving Hammer!

Wednesday in Austin, Texas the former speaker of the house faces up to 99 years in prison after being convicted on two felonies. Jurors deliberated for 19 hours before returning guilty verdicts on charges of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering in a scheme to illegally funnel corporate money to Texas candidates in 2002,

DeLay remains free on bond and has stated that he plans to appeal the verdict.

It couldn't happen to a nicer guy!

Republicans Shoot Down Unemployment Extension In House

On Thursday Republicans in the Congress voted down a measure that would have reauthorized extended unemployment insurance for another three months. This essentially means that the benefits would lapse as of Nov. 30.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING... and good luck with Christmas America!

Without a reauthorization, the Labor Department estimates that two million long-term unemployed will prematurely stop receiving benefits before the end of the year.

It is mind blowing that Republicans keep whining about the tax cuts for the richest 2% but won't join in a bill to help the jobless Americans provide for their families through this holiday season.
The bill was brought to the floor under a "suspension of the rules," meaning it required approval from two-thirds of the House. It failed 258 to 154, with mostly Democratic support.

Even if it had passed the House, it's unclear how it would get through the Senate, where Democrats will need at least three Republicans to switch sides and not a single Republican has signaled a willingness to support unemployment reauthorization.

It's likely there will be another effort by Democrats in Congress to reauthorize the benefits before the Christmas break.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said "I don't think we should be going home over the holidays when people are losing their unemployment benefits, and especially when the struggle seems to be how you can give more money to rich people. I do not think that we want to leave here having fought for tax cuts for millionaires and against... unemployment insurance for those who lost their jobs."

Democrats may attempt to attach a reauthorization of the extended benefits to a broader bill, such as a measure reauthorizing some of the Bush-era tax cuts set to expire at the end of the year.

Quite literally no economist in the country When discussing how to get our economy moving again will tell you that ensuring [that] those who lost their jobs have the ability to pay their rent, support their families, isn't in and of itself a great boost to the economy.

This type of behavior by the GOP is nothing new. If you'll remember over the summer, as Senate Republicans filibustered a reauthorization for 50 days, 2.5 million people stopped receiving checks for several weeks.

Republicans have once again shown their true colors and to whom their allegiances belong to. By turning a blind eye to the hardship and suffering dealt to families and the economy that will result from the November 30th cut-off they have made it perfectly clear which master they serve and it is most definitely not with Americans hurt by this devastating recession.

I'll leave it to you to figure out whose lap dogs they are.

Freshman Congressman Harris Snagged In Health Care Hypocricy

Here is a microcosm of what is wrong with the tea party and those who claim to be tea party Americans. They are unabashed hypocrites.

Case in point. Andy Harris the Incoming Representative of Maryland ran on a message of "repeal and replace" of the Health Care Reform Act passed by the Democrats last year. Here is a clip of old Andy railing against it... (Forward to 2:20)

Fair enough... Unless he were to reveal his true colors.

Here is the scenario. Mr. Harris and all the other new congressmen and women were at a freshmen orientation session when they were told that their health care benefits wouldn't go into effect until nearly a month after his swearing in.

A congressional staffer present at the freshman orientation session told Politico that upon hearing this Harris "stood up and asked the two ladies who were answering questions why it had to take so long, what he would do without 28 days of health care,"

Politico relays the kicker...

"Harris then asked if he could purchase insurance from the government to cover the gap," added the aide, who was struck by the similarity to Harris's request and the public option he denounced as a gateway to socialized medicine.

It's enough to make you sick. Hopefully you have insurance!

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.), the incoming Chairman of The House Oversight & Government Reform Committee, is planning a "witch hunt" against the Obama administration.

Issa told Politico this week "I want seven hearings a week, times 40 weeks...".

So in essence Isa is threatening over 500 hearings in the next Congress. This would be double the number that occurred during the entire Bush presidency.

Isa's most slanderous accusation is that President Obama used unspent stimulus funds as "walking around money". So basically he is alleging that Obama funneled federal money to political allies. Issa has done this all without a shred of proof or an iota of truth.

Dennis Kucinich has called out Isa telling him to produce proof of his accusations or withdraw his statements. Isa has not responded as of this posting.

Does Isa sound like a man without bias? Therein lies the problem if you are the Chairman of The House Oversight & Government Reform Committee... and you have an agenda.

Boy, this is sure to stimulate the economy, provide jobs and shrink the size of government... Problem solved Republicans!

Google Veteran's Day Logo Makes People Unhinged!

To commemorate Veteran's Day Google altered their logo for the occasion.

This in turn unleashed the loony bin to run amok in our internets.

Here is why.

You see Google's design uses the staff of a waving American flag as the "L" in its name, which obstructs the "E" in its name, leaving most of the letter obscured.

As you can plainly see the "E" has been magically transformed into the Islamic Caliphate Crescent Moon. Those sneaky sneaky bastards!!!!!

People's reactions have been inflamed to say the least with claims ranging from the accusation that Google did it on purpose all the way to just good old fashion anti-Islamic sentiments.

Get a hold of yourself people you have taken the bullet train to crazy town on this one.

Well the midterms are over and many are calling it the Tea Party tsunami. It is indeed time for them to celebrate and to them I say, enjoy it while you can.

Deep down I suspect just like Bush's 2nd term the Tea Party candidates will find themselves in an equally unpleasant and untenable situation at the end of the day. One of those "you should be careful what you wish for" scenarios.

All moderate and Blue Dog Democrats have been swept out of power by the Tea Party tsunami and all that is really left are the hardcore progressives. I suspect the Dems that remain won't be too willing to tow the line of the newly appointed hyper partisan zealots in the Tea Party. Y'know, repealing Health Care reforms, keeping the tax cuts for the richest 2% of Americans, privatizing Social Security, repealing the 10th and 14th Amendments and so on.

It is going to be a lot of fun to sit back and watch the fireworks because deep down I think we all know how this is going to end. Just think back 2 years ago and how George W. Bush left office. If I'm not mistaken he was swept out of power along with his fellow Republicans in what they refered to at the time as a Democratic tsunami.
