My New Year's resolution is to fight harder for more peace!

Texas Pastor Delivers Hate Filled Sermon Telling Atheists To "Leave The Country"

In a Sunday sermon, whilst filled with what I can only imagine was the spirit of the holidays, Texas megachurch pastor John Hagee took to his pulpit to rage against the imaginary "War on Christmas" and advise atheists and humanists to “leave the country!”

Hagee started by saying that if heathens didn't like hearing "Merry Christmas" or "if you pass a manger scene and someone is singing 'Joy To The World,' you can take your Walkman and stuff it into your ears, or you can call your lawyer, or you can just exercise your right to leave the country". The pastor then kindly informed us that “Planes are leaving every hour on the hour. Get on one,"

Later in the sermon Hagee told evil people like me that America...

was built by Christian people who believed in the word of God. ... If our belief in God offends you, move... We don’t want you and we won’t miss you, I promise you.”

Here is the video of Pastor John Hagee spewing god's love...

This little anti atheist outburst was not the first for Hagee. The televangelist suggested that nonbelievers leave the country in a June 2012 sermon, when he told the “atheist watching this telecast” that “this country was not built for atheists nor by atheists.”

Pastor Hagee is apparently so filled with wonderful lessons of Jesus he feels the need to spread them like verbal Christian syphilis. Here are a few other of his greatest hits...

  • In 2005 audio recording Hagee preached that Jews were "cursed" and "subhuman" that God sent Adolf Hitler as a "hunter" to kill Jewish people for “disobedience and rebellion,".

  • In a 2006 interview with NPR, he also claimed that Hurricane Katrina, which killed more than 1,800 people, was an “act of God” to punish a Gay Pride parade scheduled in New Orleans.

  • In 2006 Hagee said about Don't Ask Don't Tell "The military will have difficultly recruiting healthy and strong heterosexuals for combat purposes. Why? Fighting in combat with a man in your fox hole that has AIDS or is HIV positive is double jeopardy."

  • In 2006 Hagee claimed that gay marriage "will open the door to incest, to polygamy, and every conceivable marriage arrangement demented minds can possibly conceive. If God does not then punish America, He will have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah."

  • In 2006 Hagee said of homosexuality that "Gay sexuality inevitably involves brutal physical abusiveness and the unnatural imposition of alien substances into internal organs, orally and anally, that inevitably suppress the immune system and heighten susceptibility to disease."

  • In 2008 Hagee wrote in his book, What Every Man Wants in a Woman "Do you know the difference between a woman with PMS and a snarling Doberman pinscher? The answer is lipstick. Do you know the difference between a terrorist and a woman with PMS? You can negotiate with a terrorist"

  • In 2008 Hagee declared that "The Quran teaches that [all Muslims have a mandate to kill Christians and Jews]. Yes, it teaches that very clearly."

Obama Shames Putin On Russia's Anti LGBT Laws

In what may be the years best political side eye President Obama has just thrown some serious shade at Russia's President Vladimir Putin over his anti LGBT policies.

After Putin passed national laws banning "gay propaganda" President Obama decided the American Delegation he would send  to Russia for the Winter Olympics would definitively show that the United States doesn't make distinctions on the basis of sexual orientation.

Check this out...

The group heading to Sochi includes openly gay athletes like figure skater Brian Boitano, tennis legend Billie Jean King and an ice hockey player Caitlin Cahow.

When Obama was asked about his choices he replied that the delegation "speaks for itself,". It does indeed given that not only are the people he chose to represent America at the Olympics world-class athletes but they also happen to be gay.

In a statement released by the President he says:

"The U.S. Delegation to the Olympic Games represents the diversity that is the United States. All our delegation members are distinguished by their accomplishments in government service, civic activism, and sports. We are proud of each and every one of them and think they will serve as great ambassadors of the United States to the Olympic Games,"

In an August press conference President Obama was asked whether the U.S. should "boycott" the Sochi games in response to Russia's record on gay rights, Mr. Obama said,

"One of the things I’m really looking forward to is maybe some gay and lesbian athletes bringing home the gold or silver or bronze, which I think would go a long way in rejecting the kind of attitudes that we’re seeing there. And if Russia doesn’t have gay or lesbian athletes, then that would probably make their team weaker.”

In an additional thumb in the eye the Obama administration has decided that the Sochi Games will be the first Olympic Games since 2000 that the U.S. will not be sending a president, former president, first lady or vice president.

The More Hate Duck Dynasty's Star Spews The More Conservative Right Wingers Love Him

Phil Robertson... I suggest that you fuck a duck.

If you are new to the Duck Dynasty controversy party here is a quick refresher to get you up to speed. The patriarch of the family is named Phil Robertson. Phil likes to engage himself in deep thoughts such as which has more to offer him, "a vagina or a man's anus". Phil also likes public speaking. When he does he likes to remind the audience that homosexuals are "full of murder, envy, strife, hatred... are insolent, arrogant, god haters, heartless,  faithless, senseless, ruthless, (and) ... invent ways of doing evil.

For some reason this kind of talk really gets the right wing of this country all excited. It really gets their juices flowing. They are practically tripping over themselves to defend and praise good ol' Phil.

Let's start about with tha craziest thing anyone has ever said about this guy and work our way down from there....

Ian Bayne
Conservative talk radio host, and GOP congressional candidate Ian Bayne went all in with this one when he compared good ol' Phil Robertson to civil rights icon Rosa Parks!
"In December 1955, Rosa Parks took a stand against an unjust societal persecution of black people, and in December 2013, Robertson took a stand against persecution of Christians,"

Westboro Baptist Church
The good folk down at the Westboro Baptist Church have tweeted that they plan to picket A&E in support of fellow hate monger Phil...

Sean Hannity
Sean Hannity told his listeners of his radio show...
"What he (Robertson) expressed here was probably more old-fashioned traditional Christian sentiment and values, whether you like it or not,"

Bryan Fischer
The American Family Association’s Bryan Fischer wrote a spirited defense of Phil Robertson on his Twitter by comparing the reproductive system and all of human sexuality by comparing it to plumbing...
Phil Robertson is a new American hero. He said exactly what the great majority of Americans believe. Phil Robertson is right. It’s a simple matter of plumbing. Easy to figure out what is supposed to go where. And where not.”

Ted Cruz
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) joined in the hootenanny when he wrote this on his Facebook page...
"If you believe in free speech or religious liberty, you should be deeply dismayed over the treatment of Phil Robertson. Phil expressed his personal views and his own religious faith; for that, he was suspended from his job. In a free society, anyone is free to disagree with him--but the mainstream media should not behave as the thought police censoring the views with which they disagree."

Bobby Jindal
Bobby Jindal, the Republican Governor of Louisiana, showed Phil some love with this
"Phil Robertson and his family are great citizens of the State of Louisiana. The politically correct crowd is tolerant of all viewpoints, except those they disagree with... this is a free country and everyone is entitled to express their views. In fact, I remember when TV networks believed in the First Amendment. It is a messed up situation when Miley Cyrus gets a laugh, and Phil Robertson gets suspended."

Sarah Palin
Sarah Palin chimed in with this folksy bit of stupidity on her Facebook page....

Bristol Palin
Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol is getting in on the action...
"Everyone needs to leave Phil Robertson alone for expressing his beliefs. I think it’s so hypocritical how the LGBT community expects every single flippen person to agree with their life style.  This flies in the face of what makes America great – people can have their own beliefs and own opinions and their own ways of life.      Everyone needs to treat others like God would, with love. It goes both ways.      [...]      They take the easy way out every time anyone speaks out about their beliefs on the Bible. If I were Duck Dynasty, I would take my show to another channel. So much disrespect."

Even the freaking Log Cabin Republicans released a statement about Robertson's suspension over anti-gay remarks.
Let’s put an end to all of the fussing and feuding and talk about this like adults. Phil, you have your views and we have ours, but I think you’d be surprised how much we all have in common, and there’s no better gay folk out there to make that case than Log Cabin Republicans. We’re conservative, we’re guided by our faith, and we believe in freedom of speech. Most important, we are all children of God; that’s the most important thing we have in common. So in the spirit of the season, let’s get together — your family and ours — raise a glass, and work this out.”

Duck family
Of course the Duck Dynasty family had to issue a statement...
"We want to thank all of you for your prayers and support... We want you to know that first and foremost we are a family rooted in our faith in God and our belief that the Bible is His word. While some of Phil’s unfiltered comments to the reporter were coarse, his beliefs are grounded in the teachings of the Bible. Phil is a Godly man who follows what the Bible says are the greatest commandments: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart” and “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Phil would never incite or encourage hate... Again, thank you for your continued support of our family."

Finally, if you are so inclined you can head over to the brand spanking new website named IStandWithPhil.com brought to you by the good people at the "Faith Driven Consumer". The site has launched a massive petition to fight A&E’s suspension. So far they have 178,640 signatures.

That's a lot of love for hate. It must be the holidays.

"Duck Dynasty’s" Phil Robertson Says Homosexuals Are "Full Of Murder, Envy, Strife, Hatred."

It was only a matter of time before all the puss was going to drain out of this boil that is Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty.

In a newly surfaced video from a speaking engagement in Pennsylvania in 2010, Duck Dynasty's Phil Robertson goes full loony toon in front of an adoring and glazed eyed crowd.

Sandwiched in between Robertson's 45 minute good ol' boy routine which includes bible thumpin', evolution denyin', duck callin' and yucking it up he dropped this moronic grotesquery about the "evils" of homosexuality...

They’re full of murder, envy, strife, hatred. They are insolent, arrogant, god haters, they are heartless, they are faithless, they are senseless, they are ruthless, they invent ways of doing evil.”

Here is the video of the rant... The hate starts at 17:30.

I have a feeling this is not the last shoe to drop.

Duck Dynasty Star's Nauseating Comments On Sexuality And Race Get Him Kicked Off His Own Show

Phil Robertson (circled) and the gang from "Duck Dynasty"
During the course of my day I find that I will listen to a lot of right wing radio and television. It's partially a masochistic thing on my part but mostly I subject myself to the right wing media so I hear what the other side is carrying on about that day. You know what they say about "keeping one's enemies closer".

One thing I have learned about the right wingers is that they are in love with a show called "Duck Dynasty"on the A&E Network. Full disclosure: I have not seen this particular "reality" show. The shows family is named the Robertsons who according to the Wikipedia...
Duck Dynasty's Duck Commander
"became wealthy from their family-operated business, 'Duck Commander', operated in West Monroe, Louisiana, which makes products for duck hunters, primarily the duck call named (what else) Duck Commander

The right's love affair, from what I can tell, is with the family the show is based around and their camo wearing, gun loving, good 'ol boy personas, the "we built this" ourselves story, and of course their unabashed bible thumping hyper religiosity.

Now most people understand that reality shows are anything but. they are 90 percent scripted and the rest is cobbled together by usable outtakes. This type of show is all fine and good as long as the viewer is aware of this and has decided to suspended their disbelief of their own accord. The problem with this genre of programming is when one of these reality show "stars" decides to speak off the cuff, or unscripted. This seems to be the case here with Duck Dynasty's patriarch Phil Robertson.

It seems that good ol' Phil may have given his A&E handler the slip to do an interview for, if you can believe it, GQ Magazine. It was in this interview that Phil got himself in a little bit of hot water when he decided to voice his real and unscripted opinion on the subjects of  sexuality and race.

Let us look at Duck Dynasty father figure's comments one at a time starting with his beliefs about what he calls "homosexual behavior".

"It seems like, to me, a vagina -- as a man -- would be more desirable than a man's anus, That's just me. I'm just thinking: There's more there! She's got more to offer. I mean, come on, dudes! You know what I'm saying? But hey, sin: It's not logical, my man. It's just not logical."

Later on in the interview Robertson is asked what he "finds sinful" to which he replied...

"Start with homosexual behavior and just morph out from there. Bestiality, sleeping around with this woman and that woman and that woman and those men."

GLAAD spokesperson Wilson Cruz said of the comments made in the interview "Phil and his family claim to be Christian, but Phil's lies about an entire community fly in the face of what true Christians believe,"

Ok, we made it through that bit of insanity. Now let's examine Robertson's stunningly insensitive statements about race. According to Phil growing up in the Louisiana backwoods, in the pre-civil rights era, was not all that bad for black people. Remember when you read Robertson's words the time period he is recalling was the 1950s. This was when Jim Crow laws enforced a system of subjugating African-Americans in the South and the cultural climate where he grew up (the Louisiana backwoods) was one of disenfranchisement, segregation and race-inspired violence and murder.

I never, with my eyes, saw the mistreatment of any black person. Not once. Where we lived was all farmers. The blacks worked for the farmers. I hoed cotton with them. I’m with the blacks, because we’re white trash. We’re going across the field.... They’re singing and happy. I never heard one of them, one black person, say, ‘I tell you what: These doggone white people’—not a word!... Pre-entitlement, pre-welfare, you say: Were they happy? They were godly; they were happy; no one was singing the blues.”

The Human Rights Campaign and the NAACP wrote a joint letter to the president of A&E, expressing deep concern over Robertson's remarks saying...

"We want to be clear why Phil Robertson’s remarks are not just dangerous but also inaccurate. Mr. Robertson claims that, from what he saw, African Americans were happier under Jim Crow. What he didn’t see were lynching and beatings of black men and women for attempting to vote or simply walking down the street. And his offensive claims about gay people fly in the face of science. In fact, it’s important to note that every single leading medical organization in the country has said that there is absolutely nothing wrong with being [lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender] -- it’s not a choice, and to suggest otherwise is dangerous."

Feeling left out, A&E released this statement to Entertainment Weekly:

We are extremely disappointed to have read Phil Robertson’s comments in GQ, which are based on his own personal beliefs and are not reflected in the series Duck Dynasty. His personal views in no way reflect those of A&E Networks, who have always been strong supporters and champions of the LGBT community. The network has placed Phil under hiatus from filming indefinitely."

Entertainment Weekly added that the rest of the family starring in "Duck Dynasty" will remain on the program.

Since everybody seemed to be releasing a statement the Duck family issued one as well saying:

"As a family, we cannot imagine the show going forward without our patriarch at the helm. We are in discussions with A&E to see what that means for the future of 'Duck Dynasty.'"

Goodbye "Duck Dynasty"... I hardly knew ye... and I'm ok with that.

Tea Party Leader's Tweet Suggests Blacks Should Stop "Bitching And Moaning" About Slavery

A woman belonging to the Lincoln County Tea Party Patriots of New Mexico county named Glynis Racine has sparked controversy with (what else) a racially insensitive picture she tweeted. Making matters worse is the fact that she sent out the post on the day that marked what many consider to be the 148th anniversary of the end of slavery.

Tea Party "patriot" Glynis Racine
On her Twitter account Racine describers herself as a "Constitutional libertarian fed up with the madness" and also asks "Please let me out of the asylum!". This self explanation may explain the content of the post in question

In the repellent Tweet Racine suggests that blacks people should stop using slavery as an excuse for "bitching and moaning about how the world owes them a living."

Here is the picture Racine tweeted and then deleted shortly thereafter:
The tweet references the "white" Irish who were enslaved in the 17th and 18th centuries, claiming they were "treated worse than any other race" in what appears to be an attempt to minimize the horror of African people's enslavement at the hands of white Americans.

After the post was made known to the public the internets understandably blew her up. Many took to their social media of choice to express their feelings. For good measure the comments left were followed by the hashtag #YesYoureRacist.

Though she deleted the tweet Racine decided to defend herself with this tweet...

"Slavery is a black mark on American history, but it's time to move on. http://t.co/VKvDlACpCa"

"Move on" black people says Glynis Racine of the Lincoln County Tea Party Patriots of New Mexico county.

N.Y. Cop’s Anti-Obama Facebook Post: "Go Die In A Shallow Grave You Muslim Commie"

Pleasantville, NY police officer Peter Burns AKA "Coon Trapper"... How clever.
Police officer Peter Burns of Pleasantville New York was caught posting a racist and threatening rant against President Barack Obama on Facebook by one of the towns local papers The Journal News.

Officer Burns made the comments on a Facebook page he operated under the name “Coon Trapper.” that he set up as private, thinking that only his Facebook friends could see his posts.

Here is Burns' post...

The fact that he (Obama) is still alive bewilders me. Go die in a shallow grave you Muslim commie.”

Other posts on Officer Burns' Facebook page included such typical right wing tropes such as the "1st amendment, the NSA," and the always popular description of President Obama as "un-American."

After a reporter with The Journal News showed the post to Police Chief Richard Love he promised to take immediate action saying he statements “despicable” and “totally unacceptable,” and that they “will not be tolerated.”. He then put Burns on administrative leave and relieved of his duties. Love said the officer could be fired or disciplined after an internal affairs investigation was completed.

In response to all of this the 35-year-old Burns then posted photos of himself in camouflage and hunting gear (of course he did) on the Facebook page which he later deleted. Burns also posted links to hunting and animal trapping websites because of course.

This is not the first time police officers from this area have been accused of racism. In October of 2010 caucasian Officer Aaron Hess shot and killed Danroy Henry, a black Pace University football player, as he drove away from a group of Pleasantville police officers who had responding to an incident involving a "large crowd".

Sounds like they have had a little problem brewing at the station for some time now. Didn't the Pleasantville police department get the news from the RNC that racism ended on December 1st 1955?

Rick Santorum Claims That Government Provided Health Care Is A Plot To Kill People Who Don’t Vote The Right Way

Muhahahahahaha... Health care is murder!
Former Sen. Rick "The Rooster" Santorum (R-PA) has officially become untethered from reality... Again.

I have arrived at this conclusion upon hearing what the "frothy" one told a gathering of people as he spoke at a Young Americans for Freedom event. At the event, which was held at the Reagan Ranch, Santorum offered an unusual assessment of what happens when “the government is going to be the principal provider of health care for the country.” In other words he was about to school the people about the horrors of Obamacare.

While Ricky admitted that “It’s actually a pretty clever system,” he continued by saying that the aforementioned system “Take(s) care of the people who can vote and people who can’t vote, get rid of them as quickly as possible by not giving them care so they can’t vote against you.”

That's right! Santorum essentially likened the "Affordable Care Act" to a giant murder Ponzi scheme. "They" give you vote for the free health care but then when you become ill "they" euthanize you (by denying you care) so you won't get a chance to vote against them the next time when you discover... that they MURDERED YOU!?!?!

Here are Santorum's exact words...

If we have a system where the government is going to be the principal provider of health care for the country, we’re done. Because then, you are dependent on the government for your life and your health…When Thatcher ran for prime minister she said — remember this, this is the Iron Lady — she said, ‘The British national health care system is safe in my hands.’ She wasn’t going to take on health care, because she knew once you have people getting free health care from the government, you can’t take it away from them. And the reason is because most people don’t get sick, and so free health care is just that, free health care, until you get sick. Then, if you get sick and you don’t get health care, you die and you don’t vote. It’s actually a pretty clever system. Take care of the people who can vote and people who can’t vote, get rid of them as quickly as possible by not giving them care so they can’t vote against you. That’s how it works.”

You would think by now the big health care murder scheme thing would have gotten some attention in the countries that already practice socialized medicine?

* In regards to Santorum's reference to the The British national health care system the U.K. has had nationalized health care since 1948 and is ranked overall by the World Health Organization as having the 18th best health care outcomes in the world, while the U.S. ranks 37th.

The scandalous selfie!
Ever since the Obama, Castro handshake controversy failed to take off the right wing has busied themselves looking for another Obama news item to exploit. After a few minutes digging through the Internets trash they found just what they were looking for... Selfie-gate!

The selfie in question involves President Barack Obama and British Prime Minister David Cameron posing for a picture with Denmark's Prime Minister Helle Thorning Schmidt at the memorial service for South African former president Nelson Mandela. As if that wasn't scandal enough what the right wing has added to the mix is that next to the selfie taking threesome is a quite angry looking First Lady Michelle Obama.

Wingnut websites everywhere immediately noticed that Michelle seemed far from pleased at her husband's conduct, and at his laughing and conversating with the "pretty" Thorning-Schmidt.

How awkward... How inappropriate... how scandalous!

Here are a few headlines and reprimands...

New York Post columnist Andrea Peyser unleased this screed: "In front of 91 world leaders, the mourning nation of South Africa and Obama’s clearly furious wife, Michelle, the president flirted, giggled, whispered like a recalcitrant child and made a damn fool of himself at first sight of Denmark’s voluptuously curvy and married prime minister."

Glenn Beck had a complete pants pissing meltdown saying: “Disgusting... He’s not that stupid! He is that arrogant! No one has ever told him no! (Obama is) so out-of control arrogant it doesn’t even matter. Can’t believe we have a President of the United States that behaves like that. Unbelievable.”
The website Twichy's Headline blared: "Funeral selfies? Obama’s selfie face, FLOTUS’ furious face at #MandelaMemorial"

The BizpacReview's headline read : "Obama’s giddy selfie; Michelle’s dirty looks dominate Mandela memorial coverage"

Rush Limbaugh blubbered: "Then there are pictures of Obama giving this woman a kiss.  Now, it's a peck on the cheek, but the angle of the picture makes it look like more than that, with Michelle looking on, unhappily.  I know, it's not just Europeans that do it."

Donald Trump: "His wife was not happy, or she seemed like she wasn't too happy. And that was a tough picture, because it is a funeral."

Greta Van Sustenen Says: "There's Nothing Funny About Obama's Selfie When We're in Need of Leaders, Not Silly Frat Boys"

Newsbusters gave it their all with this one: "Networks Rush to Defend Obama Selfie: Refusing Photo Would Have Caused 'Diplomatic Incident'"

The only problem with this scenario is that the man who took the "awkward, inappropriate, scandalous" selfie photo has said  that the world was getting a very skewed interpretation of his snapshot.

Roberto Schmidt, a photojournalist for Agence France-Presse, who caught President Obama goofing around with British prime minister David Cameron and Danish prime minister Thorning-Schmidt has now said that everyone was getting the moment all wrong.

"I later read on social media that Michelle Obama seemed to be rather peeved on seeing the Danish prime minister take the picture. But photos can lie. In reality, just a few seconds earlier the first lady was herself joking with those around her, Cameron and Schmidt included. Her stern look was captured by chance."

Schmidt also said that Obama's behavior was in keeping with the general mood at the service.

"All around me in the stadium, South Africans were dancing, singing and laughing to honor their departed leader...the atmosphere was totally relaxed – I didn’t see anything shocking in my viewfinder, president of the US or not."

Another Conservative/Republican/ Fox News/ right wing scandal bites the dust.

WTF... Marco Rubio Signs Up For Obamacare

Here is Marco Rubio participating in the filibuster to defund Obamacare
In stunningly hypocritical fashion Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Florida), who refused to sign the bill ending  the government shutdown unless it defunded "Obamacare", has signed his entire family up for it!!! Furthermore the Tea Party favorite has opted to take a federal subsidy offered to lawmakers and staff.

According to Rubio's spokeswoman Brooke Sammon "Senator Rubio spent time looking at all the options and decided to enroll through the D.C. exchange for coverage for him and his family. Senator Rubio is following the law, even though he opposes it."

Aww, isn't that sweet of him.

All this from the man who opined that "this Obamacare bill is going to be an absolute disaster for the American economy."

It has also been reported in The Washington Post that fellow Teapublicans Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) have also joined the Affordable Health Care exchange.

In other surprising (good) news Obamacare's enrollment has surpassed the one million.

Thanks for helping Marco!

President Obama Shakes Raul Castro's Hand At Mandela Memorial... The Right Goes Crazy

Yesterday in Johannesburg South Africa in an event that hosted nearly 100 heads of state and governments and attended by thousands who gathered in a cold, rainy stadium the world bid farewell to Nelson Mandela. Along with those in attendance millions watched from around the globe as leaders from around the world eulogized the fallen civil rights leader and president.

One of the world leaders who spoke at the memorial was our President Barack Obama who delivered a heartfelt and moving eulogy. In the finely crafted tribute President Obama urged all nations and peoples to embrace the lessons that Mandela taught through the life he led. To embrace your enemies and spread a message of peace and forgiveness.

At the end of President Obama's powerful words he was met with deafening applause and a standing ovation.

A "normal" person might watch the event and walk away with a new outlook on life or at the very least stop for a moment to ponder the possibilities of a world that lived in peace.

The right wing media thought different.

Rather than focus on the stirring and powerful words contained within the President's speech the right wing looked elsewhere for their talking points.

They looked at a handshake.
Obama's notorious handshake with Raul Castro
As President Obama made his way to the podium he shook hands with several dignitaries one of whom happened to be the Cuban President Raul Castro. Some in the media put this down to a recent warming of relations between Cuba and the U.S. while other merely looked at it as a polite gesture from one attendee at a memorial service towards another. The right wing hate machine saw something else. They saw what they wanted to and they let loose with an unhinged rant that echoed from the sound booths of right wing radio stations to the halls of Fox News.

What the wingnuts saw was a chance to portray the benign incident as the latest traitorous act by our socialist/communist commander-in-chief.

Here are some of the headlines, tweets and soundbites the right vomited into the ether....

Anti-Castro Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen pandering to her base said "Raul Castro uses that hand to sign the orders to repress and jail democracy advocates,"

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told reporters "Why should you shake hands with somebody who's keeping Americans in prison. Neville Chamberlain shook hands with Hitler."

Breitbart’s John Nolte  "...the sight of our president bounding up some stairs to energetically shake hands with Raul Castro, dictator of Cuba, was more than a little unsettling"

Fox New Website blared "Cuban-American lawmakers dismayed over Obama handshake with 'thug' Castro"

The Corner's Mona Charen exclaimed "...to witness the handshake between Obama and Raul Castro makes the stomach turn... the nature of the Cuban regime should be enough to cause our president to find some way to avoid a handshake. Shameful day to be an American."

Sen. Marco Rubio said, "If the president was going to shake his hand, he should have asked him about those basic freedoms Mandela was associated with that are denied in Cuba. It remains clear that Cuba is the same totalitarian state today that it has been for decades. This totalitarian state continues to have close ties to terrorist organizations."

Rush Limbaugh blubbered "Now, there are a lot of people trying to say, A-ha, a-ha, see? It just proves that President Obama is a socialist." We don't need him shaking Raul Castro's hand to know this. We don't need him acting friendly with Raul Castro to know who Obama is."

BizPac Review's headline shouted "Bowing to dictators again: Did Obama just bow to Cuba’s Raul Castro?"

Glenn Beck's The Blaze ran with the headline "Obama Shook Hands With a Communist Dictator at the Mandela Memorial Service, and It’s Making Headlines,"

Conservativebyte.com's smug headline read "Obama is right at home with fellow dictators at today’s communist funeral for Nelson Mandela"

The Washington Examiner's Charlie Spiering tweeted "kismet at today’s memorial service for Mandela. One’s a communist who’s reduced his country to ruins, the other’s Raul Castro."

And despite the fact that Mandela considered Cuba an ally in the anti-apartheid movement Fox News Bill Hemmer opined "A journalist contacted us today saying this would not have been in the spirit of Mandela, it would have been disrespectful to the spirit of Mandela,"

In conclusion let me say this to the right wingers who are out there clutching your pearls and swooning with the vapors over the Obama, Castro handshake photo...
