It seems that Matt Drudge, the conservatives go to boy for right wing talking points, is making a big deal about not purchasing health care for his employees at his wingnut website "The Drudge Report". He is instead boasting that he'd rather pay the required penalty for deadbeats as prescribed in the Affordable Care Act. He even made up a cute little bumper sticker name for his brave gesture as you can see in his bold and defiant tweet...
Here's the problem for Matt. The penalty for not buying insurance isn't imposed until this year. This means that it doesn't have to be paid until his taxes for this year are filed... NEXT YEAR!.
All you have to do is check with the IRS who says: "You will make the payment when you file your 2014 federal income tax return in 2015." So either Drudge is lying or he really stupid and paid a huge penalty a year earlier than he needed to.
In addition, the Obama administration doesn't currently have a mechanism for accepting individual mandate payments, which are separate from income taxes, and the exact penalties have not yet been determined
When Drudge was asked by several legitimate news outlets about his obvious misstatements (lies) he offered no response... Only more tweets....
Again there is a problem. If Drudge was referring to the employer mandate, it only applies to companies with more than 50 employees and Drudge is most definitely a "small company". A final nail in the coffin of Matt's lie is that even if "The Drudge Report" had more than 100 employees they would still be exempt from any penalty until 2016.
