Bundy's dispute with the BLM stems from the fact that he has been illegally grazing his cattle on federal land without paying for it.... FOR 20 YEARS! Now he's upset that just like the rest of us, he is going to have to pay his taxes. The tab for that will run him around $1.1 million in unpaid grazing fees. That amount would make me claim I didn't recognize the federal government as well!
Here's a question: How long do you think it would be before we were locked up for not paying out 1.1 million dollar tax bill?
To nutshell this saga in early April the feds confiscated Bundy's cattle after multiple court orders demanded that he remove his animals from land where his grazing rights had been revoked. The right wing media immediately began sounding the alarm on this horrific case of "governmental overreach"! This in turn caused a multitude of militias to show up fully armed and drooling to shoot it out with anyone who messed with their new hero and /or any of his livestock. The standoff ended when the Feds released the cattle after deciding it would be wise to back off as opposed to getting into a full fledged shootout with the 100's of militia men (which included snipers!)
Here are some Pictures to illustrate the intense stand off...

So victory for the welfare queen cowboy!
It was at this point the story blew up and just about all of the right wing talking heads glommed onto the legend that was American hero Cliven Bundy. They painted a picture of him as being just your average cowboy who stood up for what is right with this country. The little guy stickin' it to the jack booted thugs who's abuse of power is a microcosm of what is happening to all "good" people in Obama's America.
That's when it all went bad.
In an unsolicited commentary Cliven Bundy ruined it all. What is it that he could have said that could have ruined this feel good party. What is it he could have said that could end this right wing love affair? It was in the end what almost always trips up the anointed conservative hero. It was Cliven Bundy's view on ... in his words not mine... "The negro"! (See Duck Dynasty and Ted Nugent)
Well Cliven let's have it then. What is it that you want to tell us "the negro"...
“I want to tell you one more thing I know about the Negro ... because they were basically on government subsidy, so now what do they do? They abort their young children, (How the hell do you abort young children?) they put their young men in jail, because they never learned how to pick cotton. And I’ve often wondered, are they better off as slaves, picking cotton and having a family life and doing things, or are they better off under government subsidy? They didn’t get no more freedom. They got less freedom.”
Oh boy.... Here is the video...
Ok that's bad. That's really bad. But wait... There's more.
In what was supposed to be an apology in which Bundy was to clarify his unbelievably racist comments the welfare cowboy did a damage control press conference in which doubled down on the damage... Here is what he said...
“I’m a-wondering, Cliven Bundy is wondering about the black community. Are they better off with their woman aborting their children? Are they better off with their young men in prison? Are they with the older people on the sidewalks in front of their government-issued homes with a few children? Are they better off, are they happier than they was when they was in the South in front of their homes with their chickens, and their gardens, and their children around them. … and their men having something to do?”
“I’m not saying that I thought they should be slaves … I’m not even saying they was better off. I’m a-wondering if they were better off?”
“Now let me tell you something about what I’ve seen with the Negro community…” “I see the Negro…” “They’re not slaves no more. They seem to be slaves to the welfare system.” “I understand what slavery is all about. … slavery’s about when you take away choices from people.”
And here's the kicker...
"If I call — if I say negro or black boy or slave, I’m not — if those people cannot take those kind of words and not be offended, then Martin Luther King hasn’t got his job done then yet. They should be able to — I should be able to say those things and they shouldn’t offend anybody."
Oh... my... Thing I don't believe in!!!!!
Watch the head on collision here...
Predictably, it is at this point that the conservatives, right wingers and Republicans, who held this man up to be their cause celeb, ran away from Bundy like he was radioactive.
The militiamen believe this is a government conspiracy and the Cliven Bundy never said these things. They refuse to leave Bundy's side or the town in which this whole debacle has taken place. They vow not to give up without a fight...
All is quiet for now but I have a feeling that in the coming weeks we shall see this wingnut horrorshow play itself out... Peacefully I hope.
