I Am Possessed By Satan!

Atheists... I am Satan and I want your BRAIN!

I feel so stupid.

How could I have been so wrong?

I used to consider myself an man who formed his beliefs in reason and science... A fact based thinker...  A secular humanist... A nontheist... An Atheist.

I have now realized that it has all been an illusion created by the grandmaster of lies himself and that I am in fact...

A great man has shown me the error of my ways... A man by the name of Gordon Klingenschmitt!

While preaching the good word on his "Pray In Jesus Name" radio program Klingenschmitt explained that church-state separation groups like the ACLU and the Freedom From Religion Foundation are literally representatives of "demonic power."

Klingenschmitt then went on to enlighten his audience explaining that Atheists are in fact possessed by demonic spirits but that we do not realize it because these demonic spirits are blinding us to the fact that we are possessed by demonic spirits.

If you can follow that logic you realize what an unholy catch 22 all us Atheists are in!

In trying to explain his perfectly easy to follow logic Klingenschmitt went on to cite 2 Corinthians 4:4 (albeit incorrectly) saying...

"an atheist complainer, he looks at Jesus and doesn't see the glory of Christ. He's blind. And who has blinded him? Satan inside of him as blinded his eyes. It's impossible for atheists to discern the demonic spirits"

How right brother Klingenschmitt is! What he claims explains everything so neatly and all without having to possess any pesky factual evidence for true believers like himself and his audience to deal with. It's almost like some made up a nonsensical set of rules so they wouldn't have to confront any of the questions non-believers might have for them (or that they might have for themselves for that matter). Now they can  just chalk all Atheists up to being possessed by Satan... And who wants to listen to Satan less that a true believer? It's a good thing all of this church driven dogma is true or someone might look at this simplistic explanation as some half assed reasoning for them to bury their head in the sand and not face facts! You know, like a child who doesn't want to hear something so he plugs his ears with his fingers and sings "la la la".

On a final note...

Here is Gordon Klingenschmitt preachin' the good word on his show!

Gordon Klingenschmitt is a disgraced former Navy Chaplain who was court-martialed for disobeying direct orders when he attended a political rally in front of the White House in March 2006 dressed in his Navy uniform (a violation of military regulations). After his dismissal from the Navy Klingenschmitt proceeded to the rounds on right wing radio and TV to lie about his court-martial claiming he was drummed out of the Navy for praying publicly in Jesus’ name. He then parlayed the fame, sympathy and money he garnered from the far right to form his tax exempt Colorado Springs-based “The Pray in Jesus Name Project,”.

Satan get thee behind me!

Study Finds Children Exposed To Religion Have Difficulty Distinguishing Fact From Fiction

According to a new study, published in the July issue of Cognitive Science, it was determined that children who are exposed to religion at a young age have a hard time (or in some cases are incapable of) differentiating between fact and fiction.

In two studies, 5 and 6 year-old children from both public and parochial schools were presented with three different types of stories in an effort to gauge how well they could identify narratives with "impossible" elements as fictional. These stories ranged from the religious to the fantastical and finally realistic.

In the realistic stories that only included only "ordinary" events, all the children, irrespective of family background and schooling, claimed that the protagonist was a real person.

Yet in religious stories that included the "impossible" events brought about by divine intervention, claims about the status of the protagonist varied sharply with exposure to religion.

It broke down like this...

Children who went to church or were enrolled in a parochial school, or both, judged the protagonist in religious stories (involving "impossible" events) to be a real person, whereas secular children with no such exposure to religion judged the protagonist in religious stories to be fictional.

The study also found that the children's upbringing was also related to their judgment about the protagonist in fantastical stories that included impossible events brought about by magic (Study 1) or without reference to magic (Study 2). Secular children once again were more likely than religious children to judge the protagonist in such fantastical stories to be fictional.

In addition religious children would rely more heavily on religion to justify their false categorizations when presented with impossible religious events achieved through divine intervention (e.g., talking animals, Jesus transforming water into wine) to fictional narratives.

Unsurprisingly the results of the two studies suggest that exposure to religious ideas has a powerful impact on children's ability to differentiate between reality and fiction, not just for religious stories but also for any story that contains fantastical events.

The conductors of these studies discerned from their gathered data that...

In both studies, [children exposed to religion] were less likely to judge the characters in the fantastical stories as pretend, and in line with this equivocation, they made more appeals to reality and fewer appeals to impossibility than did secular children,”

In addition the study refutes previous hypotheses claiming that children are “born believers,” the authors suggest saying...

religious teaching, especially exposure to miracle stories, leads children to a more generic receptivity toward the impossible, that is, a more wide-ranging acceptance that the impossible can happen in defiance of ordinary causal relations.”

To put a fine edge on this study according to 2013-2014 Gallup data, roughly 83 percent of Americans report a religious affiliation, and an even larger group -- 86 percent -- believe in God. In addition more than a quarter of Americans, 28 percent, also believe the Bible is the actual word of God and should be taken literally, while another 47 percent say the Bible is the inspired word of God.

That's a lot of kids growing up without the ability to differentiate between fact and fiction.

Rick Perry Panders To His Hateful Base And Sends 1,000 Armed National Guards To The Boarder

Gov. Rick Perry of Texas announced on Monday that he will be sending up to 1,000 National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border. He claims it is in order to to deal with what he characterizes as the "assault" of unaccompanied children that have come to our country to seek asylum. The putz even gave it a special code name... Wait for it... "Operation Strong Safety".

Help me.

To understand Rick Perry's sheer stupidity and unadulterated political hackery in this matter we first have to understand what is happening at the border.

Parents in violence and poverty stricken areas of Central America are being told by "coyotes" (human smugglers) that if their children can cross the boarder they will receive amnesty by the US government. They are backing up these statements by telling these families of a law passed by George W. Bush (Yes, Dubya!!!) in 2008 named Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act.  This law expressly allows unaccompanied minors that enter must be allowed to apply for asylum meaning that children cannot be returned without due process like those who come in from Mexico or Canada. Seizing on this law all the children have to do is literally walk up to a boarder agent and say give them a wave. After this, by law, that boarder agent must take them to a safe place until the child can be processed and determine whether they are eligible for amnesty.

Now let's look at Rick Perry's ridiculous stunt of sending armed national guards to the boarder. What are they gonna do... Draw down on 3 and 4 year olds looking to hug a boarder patrol agent? All the child would have to do is walk up to the National Guardsman and still the same George W. Bush law would apply.

Meanwhile, in the middle of carrying out this pathetic stunt, Perry actually had the balls to accuse the federal government of offering only "lip service" when it came to the children crossing the border and that the troops are necessary to...

"Combat the brutal Mexican drug cartels that are preying upon our communities". Perry went on to say "I will not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault"

These are f**king children we are talking about for f**k sake!

As for Perry's troop surge It's pure bullshit. Perry, who unbelievably wants to run for the Presidency again, thinks this move of sending troops to the boarder makes him look tough on the "illegals". It 's political hackery of the highest caliber that panders to the lowest common denominator.

In light of all this asshattery let's not forget that last week Perry all but accused President Obama of actually being behind the influx of unaccompanied children into the country when he suggested on Fox News that the Obama administration might be "in on this somehow". When pressed about that statement later on one of the Sunday shows Perry doubled down on his conspiracy theory when he replied...

"I have to believe that when you do not respond in any way, that you are either inept, or you have some ulterior motive of which you are functioning from,".

I think Perry might do well to don a second pair of smart glasses... It couldn't hurt.

Republicans Scramble To Figure Out How To Blame President Obama For The Malaysian Flight MH17 Tragedy

Last Wednesday Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 was shot out of the sky by what is to believed to be Ukrainian pro-Russian separatists.

As soon as it was clear what had happened President Obama has called the crash "An Outrage Of Unspeakable Proportions".

There is no doubt that is is an apt description of the horror of this tragedy.

Despite the fact that the consensus is either the separatist or Russia's President Putin (who armed the separatists) is to blame for this heinous crime right wingers, Republicans, and conservatives alike have been falling all over themselves in a mad rush to see how they can spin this disaster as President Obama's fault.

Let's take a look at some of the demented voices of this group reaching out for any tenuous link they can find...

Rush Limbaugh covertly suggested that Obama may have brought down the airliner himself saying...

"I haven’t had CNN on all day. What do you want to bet they have broomed everything, and are covering wall-to-wall the Malaysian Airlines flight shot down by a missile? I don’t want to appear to be callous here, folks but you talk about an opportunity to abandon the bad Obama news at the border! It’s really eerie, why would it be shot down? Over Ukraine, it was shot down by a missile. This would lead one to believe that it is not an accident.”

While Limbaugh took the train all the way to crazy town many of the other wing-nut windbags have adhered to what seems to be the officially sanctioned talking point that it was in fact Obama's "weak" and "feckless" foreign policy that is to blame for the tragedy.

Allen West wrote in his blog...

Sadly, hundreds of Ukrainians and 298 souls on MH17 have paid the price for the weakness and abject cowardice of Obama's "flexibility."... The blood on Vladimir Putin's hands was poured by Barack Obama who is indirectly responsible, accountable accountable [sic] and no different than Neville Chamberlain's weakness in the face of the 20th Century maniacal dictator Adolf Hitler...”

Sen. John McCain said that Mr. Obama is running a...

cowardly administration that failed to give the Ukrainians weapons with which to defend themselves.”

Fox News' contributor Lt. Col. Ralph Peters frothed...

"Our president didn’t do anything, nothing meaningful. Now, I’m glad he put more sanctions on Putin this week but they’re too little, too late" Peter's went on to say "I mean, we have a man, he’s not a cipher, exactly, in the Oval Office, but he’s a man who was elected president of a country he doesn’t really like and whose population he distrusts and whose military he despises."

Fox News brain-trust Brian Kilmeade opened the discussion by “asking,”...

If we gave the Ukrainian government arms instead of lunch, it might have helped. And that might have been the bold message that would have prompted Vladimir Putin to step back and said, ‘I can’t take the risk.’

Sen. Ron Johnson said on "The Steve Malzberg Show"...

"I'm hoping Americans are watching as President Nero fiddles while the world burns," Johnson went on to say "We have to back up the words with real action. That's something this president has utterly refused to do. The person to blame here is Vladimir Putin, but it's our lack of resolve, it's our lack of a strong response that continues to give him the signal that he can continue to act in this barbaric way with impunity."

Former Ambassador to the UN John Bolton criticized what he called President Barack Obama's "policy of appeasement" with Russia saying...

"While I don't think anybody could have foreseen this specific tragedy, it is entirely understandable that something like this has happened because of the way Putin has perceived American weakness,"

Fox News contributor Todd Starnes tweeted...

"Yesterday Obama announces new sanctions against Russia. Today, jetliner crashes in Ukraine."

Truly I cannot imagine how exhausting it must be to try and link every misdeed, misstep, and disaster to President Obama. I am suffering scandal fatigue just watching them try to spin the narrative. While I loathe these peoples disingenuous behavior and laugh at their attempt after failed attempt I do however pity their tortured, sad and hateful existence. History will not remember them well.

Sarah Palin Says Impeach Obama 'Cause He's Beatin' On 'Merica!

Eagle statue.. Check! 'Merican flag.. Check! Brand new yellow fringy jacket.. Check! OK, LET"S DO THIS!
Things must be slow around the Palin compound this time of year because the half Governor is suddenly looking for some right wing love and adoration. To get some much needed attention Palin has taken to her Facebook page, Breitbart.com and Fox News to throw some red meat to her rabid fan-base by crying out for the impeachment of the "imperial" and "lawless" President Obama.

Palin's reasoning for Obama's impeachment is that he has been "rewarding of lawlessness" and that he had caused "irreparable harm," to 'Merica!

In a column published on Breitbart.com Sarah Palin called for President Obama's impeachment on the grounds of "purposeful dereliction of duty,". She then went on to liken the president's treatment of the United States to that of an abusive spouse writing...

"Enough is enough of the years of abuse from this president. His unsecured border crisis is the last straw that makes the battered wife say, 'no mas.'"

Aside from the imagery of President Obama as a wife beater you simply must love the "no mas" thing... 'Cause it's Spanish... Get it, the boarder... Mexico... Spanish?!?!

Moving on.

Palin even went so far as to lay down a conspiracy theory that the President has been purposely leaving the U.S.-Mexico border unsecured because...

"Without borders, there is no nation. Obama knows this. Opening our borders to a flood of illegal immigrants is deliberate. This is his fundamental transformation of America. It’s the only promise he has kept."

Palin then closed with this keen insight...

"The many impeachable offenses of Barack Obama can no longer be ignored. If after all this he’s not impeachable, then no one is,"

Okay, let's set the record straight. In reality Obama has deported over 2 million people in his 5 and a half years as President as opposed to George "Dubya" Bush who had deported barely 2 million in his whole 8 years. In addition, to address this humanitarian crisis at the boarder, Obama has requested $3.7 billion from Congress. The funds would help improve security at the border in addition to providing care for the children who have come into the Department of Health and Human Services' custody.... Doesn't really go with Palin's narrative now does it?

If you feel the need to watch Palin blather on in her delightful pageant-speak about impeaching the President you can watch her drone on in this Fox News' Hannity interview "EXCLUSIVE"...

Still lovin' the yellow fringy jacket!
By the way, this is not the first time Palin has cried impeachment. Last year she called for Obama's ouster over the debt limit because why not.

In a completely related story brand new NBC/Wall Street Journal/Annenberg poll released Wednesday fifty-four percent of Americans say they've heard enough from Palin and wish she "would just be quiet,". You know it bad for Palin because the poll also reported that 40 percent of Republicans also wished she'd fade from the national dialogue. In addition to this most recent poll a CNN/ORC poll released last spring found that 58 percent of Americans rate her unfavorably.

Happy Independence Day!

Happy Independence Day everyone!
Originally America's Independence Day was supposed to be celebrated on July 2nd as our legal separation from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence.

July 4th is the day that the Declaration of Independence was "adopted" by that Continental Congress  because Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4.

It is for this reason I believe we should begin a petition to demand July 2nd thru the 4th be enacted as our Federal holiday.... Yes 3 days off in a row!

Don't we really need that many day off for the star spangled drunken stupor we induce every year at this time? Not to mention the banner hangover that ensues! ; )

Good News For The "Obama Economy"... Fox News Plugs Ears And Goes "La La La"

The Fox News talking heads usually uses the phrase "Obama Economy" as a form of derision they heap on the President when they come across some bad economic news. They employ it as cudgel to gleefully bash away at Obama when they have dug up a tid-bit of fiscal disharmony and then they laugh... Oh, how they laugh.

They are not laughing today.

Today the June's U.S. job numbers came out and they were stellar. So stellar in fact that the US stock market hit an all time record high because of them.

U.S. employers accelerated their hiring last month, adding "a robust" 288,000 jobs. To top it off this is the fifth straight monthly job gain above 200,000 - the best such stretch since the late 1990s tech boom. To top that off  the past 12 months, the economy has added nearly 2.5 million jobs - an average of 208,000 a month, the fastest year-over-year pace since 2006.

As a result of June's healthy U.S. job growth the unemployment rate dropped to 6.1 percent, the lowest since September 2008!

When stock markets opened Thursday, an hour after the government released the jobs report, the Dow Jones industrial average traded above 17,000... for first time EVER!

This was all too much for the Fox News people to take. They couldn't bury the report's numbers deep enough. Take a look at how they reported on the economic success as compared to other news services...

Here is CNN:

Here is MSNBC:

And now here is Fox:
Yes, you'll have to click the image to enlarge it 'cause the print is real tiny.

Charles Payne, the one Fox News anchor who was willing to say anything about the jobs numbers, actually had the stones to tweet this idiocy:

"Too good" you say Charles... Umm, okay.

I guess they don't remember when their man George W. Bush held the Presidency and resided over a stock market that hovered around 6,000 and our economy was hemorrhaging almost a million jobs a month.

Now as I type this I understand that this is still way to few jobs being created and in the best of all possible worlds every person who wanted a job would be gainfully employed... But given the circumstances that our economy was in I think we can all agree that if the question was asked "are you better off today than when Barack Obama became President" I think the answer is a resounding "yes".

Hate Filled Protesters Block Transfer Of Migrant Children And Families (PICS)

"The hate was palpable"
As many of you know there is a terrible humanitarian crisis involving the flow of unaccompanied immigrant children across the US-Mexico border. At this point more than 52,000 unaccompanied children from Central America have been detained after since October. Some believe the sudden influx is due to the fact that crime syndicates in Latin America are waging a deliberate campaign of misinformation intimating that those who cross the U.S. border will receive leniency from U.S. authorities. This has in turn caused people in poor violence riddled Central American countries and Mexico to risk their lives to enter the U.S. to flee the pervasive gang violence and crushing poverty.

Due to the sheer numbers of migrant children they have had to relocate many of them to different detainment centers to alleviate the massive overcrowding. It was during one of these moves that a small town in Southern California decided to let the children and their families know how they feel about them.

As 3 Homeland Security buses carrying migrant children and families were being transferred to a suburban processing center in Murrieta California when 200 to 300 hundred of the towns worst examples of humanity blocked the group from reaching their destination.

The protestors waved American flags and chanting “Go home” "They're not born here!" "Impeach Obama!" (because of course) "Deport! Deport!" “God Bless America” and "USA" while holding signs that read “Illegals Out” “Return to sender” and "Protect your children from disease" (?).

This ugly showdown came one day after Murrieta Mayor Alan Long ratcheted up Murrieta's residents by urging them to protest the federal government’s decision to move the immigrants through their town. In addition the town posted a notice on its website: "Murrieta Opposes Illegal Immigrant Arrival" for good measure.

It was also reported that police officers who were there for "public safety" urged the protestors who had previously been standing on the side of the road to move into the path of the oncoming busses causing the ensuing stand off.

Some of the protestors were interviewed by various news sources and here's a taste of what they had on their small ignorant minds... (Now remember these are just children and families)

Protester Angela Sherman, of French Valley, said...

I’m here to protect the rights of American citizens, not illegal immigrants. There are other ways to go about getting a better life.

Protester Diane Lytton, of Horsethief Canyon, said...

We’re just letting them in by droves. It’s not a racial thing for me (always a dead giveaway). It’s a matter of right and wrong. I’m just worried about the future for my children, my grandchildren.”

Protester Roger Cotton, of San Diego, said...

"Who’s going to pay for them? What kind of criminality will happen? The Democrats are making it easy for them to come here so they can produce more Democratic voters,"

Protestor Dr. Robert Treuherz and his wife, Claudia,, said...

"Who are these people? Where do they end up? Are they going to pay taxes? The American people are being held to a very narrow political agenda at our peril."

On a less shameful note after the buses were blocked from entering Murrieta by the protestors authorities rerouted the vehicles to San Ysidro where they were welcomed with cheers and people holding signs of encouragement. Activists chanted loudly outside the station after the children and families arrival to let them know that there are some people in the United States who support them.

So, at least there's that.

Here are pictures of the Murrieta protestors doing themselves proud...

The Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Hobby Lobby... And The Right Wingers Go Crazy!

These 5 men have decided that women aren't entitled to contraceptives if their boss doesn't want them to have it.

Today the Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby. Basically that means that for-profit employers/corporations with "religious objections" can opt out of providing contraception coverage to women that is provided to them under Obamacare.

But for the right wing it means something more... So much more.

They are delighted...

They are giddy...

They are elated...

They are positively overjoyed.

The news couldn't be better. Obama Lost! Did you hear that, Obama has lost!

The conservative, right wing Republican politicians, the talking heads on Fox News, the pundits on talk radio, hacks in print media and the bloggers across the blogosphere all stand united in joyous righteousness.

Obama has been smacked down

Obama has been reprimanded.

Obama has been proven to be a law breaker.

It is a direct rebuke of the usurper king's war on religion and America!

They are smug pigs rolling in their own self righteous shit. Like a foul smelling drunk swimming in his own sick. Like a bloated pustule roiling and undulating with it own disease. All with no shame or self awareness of it's nauseating presence.

Lets take a look at some of the over the top reactions of the right wingers...

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said in a statement today...
“Today’s Supreme Court decision makes clear that the Obama administration cannot trample on the religious freedoms that Americans hold dear. Obamacare is the single worst piece of legislation to pass in the last 50 years..."

Sen. John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said in a statement today...
“This ruling is a victory for freedom and another blow against the Obama Administration’s unprecedented overreach into the lives of Americans.

Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.) said in a statement today...
"This is yet another reason why Obamacare should be repealed"

Rep. Steve Stockman (R-TX) said in a statement today...
“Today is a great victory for religious freedom in America, which has been severely under attack by the anti-freedom Left and its special interest groups"

Rep. Steve Palazzo (R-Miss.) said in a statement today...
“Today’s ruling delivers another devastating blow to ObamaCare and protects the freedom of Americans to live and work based on their religious beliefs"

Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.) said in a statement today...

"Today, the Supreme Court stood up for religious liberty and stopped President Obama’s assault on employers who believe they can follow their conscience while conducting business in this country.”

Radio host Rush Limbaugh said of the Supreme Court that...

"...the Supreme Court, by 5-4 majority decision, defended liberty. And it should be noted that even after this decision, birth control remains widely available. It is dirt cheap, no matter where you want to go get it."

John Nolte, of Breitbart.com, sent out this obnoxious tweet...
"Ohmydeargawd, Women Might Have To Go To Target For Birth Control."

Todd Starnes, a Fox News regular, sent out this tweet...
"Obama's Plan To Force Christians To Fund Abortions Is Thwarted."

Fox Business' News' Charles Payne sent out this tweet...:
"The Body Blows To The Imperial Presidency Can Only Get Better."

Eric Bolling, of Fox's News' "the Five", sent out this brilliantly worded tweet....
"Sandra Fluke "May Do Something Dumb" Because She Has To Pay For Her Own Birth Control."

If someone were to judge from the rights's reaction to todays ruling you would have thought the court had repealed all of Obamacare in one fell swoop.

This is simply not the case... Not even close.

All the Supreme court did was say that if you believe allowing women their right to birth control infringes on your religious beliefs than you can withhold them from your female employees. Though ridiculous on it's face the narrowly applied ruling only applies to the single issue of contraception put forth in the Affordable Care Act and nothing else. Any other religious exemptions are explicitly not included... Only for Christians... Only for contraception.

So what does that mean...

The Jews, the Jehovah Witnesses, the Hindus, the Muslims, the Scientologists ect, ect, ect, can all go pound sand according to this court's ruling. If they have any religious objections they are shit out of luck. The one important religion got taken care of today.

It also means that despite limiting birth control based on the whims of a woman's employer while vasectomies and Viagra can flow freely from the health care provided for men.

So this begs the question: Why all the unbridled joy and over the top histrionics by the right wing media and social conservatives?

Simple... They despise President Obama and anything that hurts his signature achievement, the Affordable Care Act, is cause for them to celebrate.

I also believe one other thing is figuring into the festivities. It is the fact that the right has been trying and failing, for what seems like forever, to drum up any scandal or setback that they can lay on President Obama. I imagine this one singular victory must seem like a windfall to them.

In Related news Americans' confidence in the judicial branch is at a record low.

The Gallup survey released Monday found that just 30 percent of respondents have a "great deal" or a "quite a lot" of confidence in the high court, down seven points from the 2012 survey and marking the lowest approval number for the court since Gallup first started tracking confidence in the court in 1973.

I wonder what that percentage will drop to once this fiasco is factored in?

Finally, if you are interested in showing your displeasure for this inane ruling just Google "Boycott Hobby Lobby Petition" and sign one (or all) of the petitions that have cropped up since yesterday!
