To understand Rick Perry's sheer stupidity and unadulterated political hackery in this matter we first have to understand what is happening at the border.
Parents in violence and poverty stricken areas of Central America are being told by "coyotes" (human smugglers) that if their children can cross the boarder they will receive amnesty by the US government. They are backing up these statements by telling these families of a law passed by George W. Bush (Yes, Dubya!!!) in 2008 named Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act. This law expressly allows unaccompanied minors that enter must be allowed to apply for asylum meaning that children cannot be returned without due process like those who come in from Mexico or Canada. Seizing on this law all the children have to do is literally walk up to a boarder agent and say give them a wave. After this, by law, that boarder agent must take them to a safe place until the child can be processed and determine whether they are eligible for amnesty.
Now let's look at Rick Perry's ridiculous stunt of sending armed national guards to the boarder. What are they gonna do... Draw down on 3 and 4 year olds looking to hug a boarder patrol agent? All the child would have to do is walk up to the National Guardsman and still the same George W. Bush law would apply.
Meanwhile, in the middle of carrying out this pathetic stunt, Perry actually had the balls to accuse the federal government of offering only "lip service" when it came to the children crossing the border and that the troops are necessary to...
"Combat the brutal Mexican drug cartels that are preying upon our communities". Perry went on to say "I will not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault"
These are f**king children we are talking about for f**k sake!
As for Perry's troop surge It's pure bullshit. Perry, who unbelievably wants to run for the Presidency again, thinks this move of sending troops to the boarder makes him look tough on the "illegals". It 's political hackery of the highest caliber that panders to the lowest common denominator.
In light of all this asshattery let's not forget that last week Perry all but accused President Obama of actually being behind the influx of unaccompanied children into the country when he suggested on Fox News that the Obama administration might be "in on this somehow". When pressed about that statement later on one of the Sunday shows Perry doubled down on his conspiracy theory when he replied...
"I have to believe that when you do not respond in any way, that you are either inept, or you have some ulterior motive of which you are functioning from,".
I think Perry might do well to don a second pair of smart glasses... It couldn't hurt.
