|McCarthy... Never accused of being the brightest bulb in the box|
Uh-oh! Somebody forgot to stick to their talking points!
In one sentence top Republican lawmaker Kevin McCarthy blew the secret Republicans were trying to hide about the their precious little Benghazi committee. Since it's inception the GOP has worked assiduously to make their investigation appear as nonpartisan as possible and have insisted the committee is not about targeting Clinton, but was instead created as a fact finding vehicle for the 2012 attack on a U.S. consulate in Libya.

But Kevin McCarthy, a top Republican lawmaker on track to become the next speaker of the House, credited the Select Committee on Benghazi for damaging Clinton’s poll numbers during an appearance on Fox News with Sean Hannity...
“Let me give you one example. Everybody thought Hillary Clinton was unbeatable, right? But we put together a Benghazi special committee, a select committee. What are her numbers today? Her numbers are dropping. Why? Because she’s untrustable. But no one would’ve known any of that had happened had we not fought and made that happen.”
Say whaaaat? Here is the video...

This clearly is in conflict with what South Carolina Republican Trey Gowdy, who leads the committee, just said on the September 11 anniversary of the attacks...
"[w]hile much outside attention has been paid to the former Secretary [of State Hillary Clinton], this investigation has never been about her and never will be.
Clinton allies and Democrats on the committee were thrilled by the McCarthy's gaffe that just might convince the press and Americans of what they have been complaining about for years.
Rep. Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the committee, said McCarthy’s comments finally confirm what he has long claimed.
“This stunning concession from Rep. McCarthy reveals the truth that Republicans never dared admit in public: The core Republican goal in establishing the Benghazi Committee was always to damage Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign and never to conduct an even-handed search for the facts,”
In an interview with MSNBC Clinton joined the fray saying...
“I have to tell you I find [the comments] deeply distressing. I knew the ambassador that we lost in Benghazi. along with him we lost three other brave Americans who were representing us in a very dangerous part of the world. So when I hear a statement like that, which demonstrates unequivocally that this was always meant to be a partisan political exercise, I feel like it does a grave disservice and dishonors not just the memory of the four we lost, but of everybody who has served our country,”
For those of you counting at home the Benghazi Committee has not held any hearings since January and has spent $4.5 million taxpayer dollars since its authorization 72 weeks ago. A final report is not expected until late 2016 which just happens to coincide with the final leg of the presidential campaign... By pure coincidence of course.
