Donald Trump has just insinuating that President Obama was complicit in the Orlando Pulse Nightclub terrorist attack.
During a phone interview today on "Fox & Friends," Donald Trump stepped up his criticism of President Obama pointedly questioning his lack of willingness to call the act "radical Islamic terrorism”. Trump then intimated that the Presidents unwillingness to say these words is because his sympathies might lie elsewhere...
“He doesn't get it or he gets it better than anybody understands.”
Trump then finished off the interview with again engaging in the thinly veiled insinuation saying…
“Look, we’re led by a man that either is not tough, not smart, or he’s got something else in mind. And the something else in mind — you know, people can’t believe it. People cannot, they cannot believe that President Obama is acting the way he acts and can’t even mention the words ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’ There’s something going on. It’s inconceivable. There’s something going on.”
Here, Trump appears to be feeding into the far-right conspiracy theory of Obama as “the other”. Someone who doesn’t adhere to our norms. Someone who doesn’t belong here. Perhaps a Kenyan, perhaps a Muslim, perhaps a terrorist who wishes to undermine the United States from within.
This is borne of the the same hallucinatory narrative Trump used to garner headlines in 2011 with his original “birther” scam but taken to a whole other level.
Make no mistake that when Trump says Obama may have "something else in mind" or that "It's inconceivable," when discussing the President and the Orlando massacre he is signaling the darkest right wing fever dreams in which Obama is not just a secret Muslim, but a radical Muslim bent on destroying the United States.
In simple terms Trump’s is implying that President Obama is an untrustworthy leader who purposely failed to prevent Omar Mateen, a self radicalized, New York born misanthrope, from going on a shooting rampage at an Orlando nightclub early Sunday morning that killed 49 and injured at least 53.
Trump’s innuendo is insidious and obscene.
