It seem like a reasonable request since there are bound to be hundreds (if not thousands) of protestors due to the Trump factor. The large number of protesters will in turn call for equal amounts of police officers to be dispatched to the convention to control the crowds and keep the peace. This will also make them, in essence, sitting ducks.
Cleveland Police Union president Stephen Loomis told any news outlet that would listen...
“We are sending a letter to Gov. Kasich requesting assistance from him. He could very easily do some kind of executive order or something — I don’t care if it’s constitutional or not at this point,”
Not having the decency to address the police union directly Governor Kasich shot down their request through a spokesperson who explained...
"Ohio Governors do not have the power to arbitrarily suspend federal and state constitutional rights or state law as suggested,"
This is because Ohio is an open-carry state, so local officials claim they cannot prevent licensed gun owners from carrying their weapons around the external security perimeter... Because of the the 2nd amendment and shit like that.
But here's the kicker...
Surprisingly the city of Cleveland has no problem banning other items from the convention and has compiled a handy list for the perusal of any one who will be attending this week's festivities.
