Over 75 Republicans Urge RNC To Cut Off Funds To Donald Trump

Today it was revealed that an open letter signed by more than 75 Republicans was sent to Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus urging him to stop spending money to Donald Trump’s Campaign. The signatories of the letter believe the RNC should be sending those contributions to Senate and House Republicans to try to help them win their races instead.

The letter states that Trump has "alienated millions of voters of all parties,” by, among other things, maligning minorities, disparaging entire religions, berating women, mocking the disabled, praising violent dictators, encouraging Russia to hack the United States and attacking Gold Star families.

Here is a sample of the letter…

We believe that Donald Trump’s divisiveness, recklessness, incompetence, and record-breaking unpopularity risk turning this election into a Democratic landslide, and only the immediate shift of all available RNC resources to vulnerable Senate and House races will prevent the GOP from drowning with a Trump-emblazoned anchor around its neck,”

This should not be a difficult decision, as Donald Trump’s chances of being elected president are evaporating by the day.

The letter continues...

"He also has shown dangerous authoritarian tendencies, including threats to ban an entire religion from entering the country, order the military to break the law by torturing prisoners, kill the families of suspected terrorists, track law-abiding Muslim citizens in databases, and use executive orders to implement other illegal and unconstitutional measures.
Every dollar spent by the RNC on Donald Trump’s campaign is a dollar of donor money wasted on the losing effort of a candidate who has actively undermined the GOP at every turn."

The letters signatories include...

Republican Andrew Weinstein (is one of the many Republicans organizing the letter), former spokesman for Bob Dole and Newt Gingrich, former GOP Congressmen Tom Coleman, Mickey Edwards, former congressmen Mickey Edwards, Christopher Shays, former senator Gordon Humphrey, Vin Weber of Minnesota, Bruce Bartlett, a policy aide to Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush. In addition close to 20 of the co-signers are former RNC staffers.

A spokesman for the RNC did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Keep in mind that this letter makes it’s way to the RNC and Priebus in the wake of Monday's salvo against Trump in which of 50 high-profile GOP national security officials saying publicly that they cannot vote for Trump.
