Trump Names White Nationalist and Avowed Anti-Semite Steve Bannon As "Chief Strategist And Senior Counselor”

Over the weekend Donald Trump announced his decision to make Stephen Bannon, former Breitbart News executive turned campaign CEO, his chief strategist and senior counselor in the White House.

While Bannon ran the Brietbart site it became a source of constant pro-Trump cheerleading throughout the campaign that propped up the Republican nominee and tore down his competition. Bannon is also widely regarded as the force that began leveraging racism and bigotry that drove Trump’s rise to power.

Taking this into account the hire of Bannon for "Chief Strategist And Senior Counselor”, though easy to understand, has taken many aback as Bannon is widely known for having white nationalist views and has been accused of anti-Semitism on several occasions.

At Breitbart, Bannon helped make the website a must read for white nationalists and the alt-right, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center, which monitors hate groups.

Under Bannon Breitbart has peddled conspiracy theories, racism, misogyny, anti-Semitism, and anti-LGBT rhetoric. It has framed women who push back against harassment or gender bias as weak and incompetent and portrays people of color and immigrants as inherently criminal.

Let us be clear. The hiring of Steve Bannon as a WH policy adviser is exactly the same as hiring David Duke. Please don’t normalize this.

Welcome to the new Trump era. Saying this is going to be a 180 from the Obama administration is an unquantifiable understatement.
