In O'Reilly Interview Trump Says He "Respects" Putin And Then Proceeds To Throws America Under The Bus (VIDEO)

In an interview with Fox News' Bill O'Reilly Donald Trump appeared to equate US actions with the authoritarian regime of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

When asked by O'Reilly if he "respected Putin" — the president of a country where political opponents and journalists are often murdered for their opposition — the conversation devolved into doublespeak and gibberish eventually ending with Trump declaring that America is just as bad as Russia when it comes to "killers"...

O’Reilly...

"Do you respect Putin?"

Trump...

"I do respect him but —"

O’Reilly...

"Do you? Why?"

Trump...

"Well, I respect a lot of people but that doesn’t mean I’m going to get along with him. He’s a leader of his country. I say it’s better to get along with Russia than not. And if Russia helps us in the fight against ISIS, which is a major fight, and Islamic terrorism all over the world — that’s a good thing. Will I get along with him? I have no idea."

O’Reilly...

"But he’s a killer though. Putin’s a killer."

Trump...

"There are a lot of killers. We’ve got a lot of killers. What do you think — our country’s so innocent. You think our country’s so innocent?"

O’Reilly...

"I don’t know of any government leaders that are killers."

Trump...

"Well — take a look at what we’ve done too. We made a lot of mistakes. I’ve been against the war in Iraq from the beginning."

O’Reilly...

"But mistakes are different than —"

Trump...

"A lot of mistakes, but a lot of people were killed. A lot of killers around, believe me."

O’Reilly...

"Let’s talk about Mexico."

Here is a video of the exchange...

Can you even begin to imagine what the right wingers would have done if President Obama had said this 2 weeks into his first term!?!?!?! They would have had impeachment hearings set up before the interview finished.

Both Democrats and Republicans are declaring that Trump’s false equivalency between the U.S. and the Russian governments at the very least suggests that he doesn’t have a good understanding of what Putin has done in Russia or believe that he is so taken with the dictator he can't bring himself to criticize him.

Or, in my opinion, perhaps Vladimir Putin has something on Trump which is so incendiary he dare not criticize him.

By the way this is not the first time Trump has used this line.

It has previously been suggested to Trump that Putin is a killer. In December 2015, the MSNBC host Joe Scarborough told Trump: “He kills journalists that don’t agree with him.” Trump replied: “Well, I think that our country does plenty of killing too, Joe.

In an amusing sideline to this otherwise disturbing story the Russian government has demanded an apology from Fox News after anchor Bill O'Reilly called President Vladimir Putin "a killer" during the interview.

Kremlin spokesman Dimitri Peskov told reporters, according to Russia's state-run RIA news agency said...

"We think such words a Fox News correspondent are unacceptable, insulting. We would prefer to receive apologies to our president from such a respectable television company,"

Your move Bill... Maybe when you call Vlad to apologize you can just change the subject real quick and ask him to "talk about Mexico".
