The report was confirmed by Pentagon spokesman Captain Jeff Davis who said in an official statement...
"Russian forces were notified in advance of the strike using the established deconfliction line. U.S. military planners took precautions to minimize risk to Russian or Syrian personnel located at the airfield."
The Russian's certainly seemed to have passed the message off to President Assad if the movement on the ground around the airbase is any indicator.
This conclusion was drawn after reports by eyewitness to the strike surfaced that said not only did Syrian military officials appeared to anticipate Thursday's night raid on Syria's Shayrat airbase, they evacuating personnel and moved equipment ahead of the strike.
In addition to the eyewitness accounts ABC News revealed that the Syrian military seemed to know that something might happen as they too reported that personnel and equipment were moved before the strike took place.
This has left experts to theorize that the strike against Syria was nothing more that a symbolic gesture as opposed to an attack meant to do any serious damage.
Former National Security Adviser Richard Clarke said of the attack...
"This attack on one air base seems more symbolic," Clarke said. "I think Secretary of Defense [General] James Mattis gave the president a list of options, this being the smallest. It was a targeted attack not designed to overwhelm the Syrian military ... I think the president was trying to differentiate himself from his predecessor."
Was this a scripted episode? Was this "show of force" meant to distract attention from Trump's Russia connections and fading poll numbers? Was this strike a reality show pissing contest drawn up to show Trump was willing to use "deadly" force when President Obama called for cooler heads?
