Trump Gives Address On The Expansion Of The Afghanistan War With No Specifics, No Troop Numbers And No Timeline But Plenty Of Teleprompters (VIDEO)

On Monday, desperate to get the stench of the Charlottesville nazis and klan off him, Donald Trump gave a speech addressing America's future concerning the war in Afghanistan.

Past Presidents who have given these types of announcements usually televise it from the Oval Office. Tonight however Trump needed a backdrop that including flags, soldiers and a podium with a presidential seal on it.

Trump's 100% teleprompter delivered speech from Fort Myer in Arlington, Virginia was supposed to lay out a new strategy for the war but instead he delivered only promises of victory and vague details of the plan to achieve it.

But stunningly Trump started the speech about the plans for Afghanistan by renouncing bigotry...

"When we open our hearts to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice, no place for bigotry and no tolerance for hate. The young men and women we send to fight our wars abroad deserve to return to a country that is not at war with itself at home."

When damage control had been achieved Trump went on to give a boilerplate breakdown of what the goal in Afghanistan was...

Attacking our enemies, obliterating ISIS, crushing al Qaeda, preventing the Taliban from taking over the country and stopping mass terror attacks against Americans before they emerge.

But he then went on to say that the U.S. would no longer give public details about the war including the number of American troops deployed or a timeline for withdrawal...

I’ve said many times how counterproductive it is for the United States to announce in advance the dates we intend to begin or end military operations. We will not talk about numbers of troops or our plans for further military activities.

Trump then said he would expand authority for American armed forces to target the terrorist and criminal networks but did not elaborate on how he planned to broaden the already sweeping authority the U.S. military has to kill terrorist groups abroad.

When all is said and done it becomes apparent that the speech was solely a distraction from what had been the most devastating week in Trump's tenure in office. It was pure wag the dog tripe. He spoke in sweeping generalities using "strong" and "muscular" fighting words but gave no specifics whatsoever. And when was the last time you have ever seen a commander-in-chief start off an address on war strategy by having to renounce bigotry!

And if you have any doubts that this speech was anything but a distraction or a means to change the subject from his Charlottesville disaster there is the fact that any plan for an expansion of the war in Afghanistan is a complete 180 from the rhetoric he spewed non-stop on the campaign trail and even years before.

Here is the full address if you want to watch someone speak for twenty-five minutes and say nothing...
