Today Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s office released a transcript of Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson’s testimony about the "dossier" compiled by his company to the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The infamous "dossier" which had been compiled by Fusion GPS with the help of former British spy Christopher Steele alleged, among other more salacious details, collusion between the Donald Trump campaign and the Russian government.
Feinstein made the bold move today despite Republican's efforts to keep the document from seeing the light of day.
Feinstein (D-Calif.) said in a statement concerning her release of the document...
“After speaking with majority and minority committee staff for 10 hours, Glenn Simpson requested the transcript of his interview be released publicly. The American people deserve the opportunity to see what he said and judge for themselves. The innuendo and misinformation circulating about the transcript are part of a deeply troubling effort to undermine the investigation into potential collusion and obstruction of justice. The only way to set the record straight is to make the transcript public.”
Fusion GPS commended Feinstein “for her courage” in releasing the document.
And if you were wondering the answer is yes. This transcript completely debunks the conservative talking point that the Steele dossier was the basis for the Trump-Russia investigations. It was in fact Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos, who, according to a recent report in the New York Times, that ramped up the investigation by telling Australian diplomat Alexander Downer that Russia had political dirt on Trump’s Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, after a night of heavy drinking in May 2016.
