Donald Trump's signals to his Justice Department to reopen the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server during her time as Secretary of State have been received loud and clear.
The Daily Beast reported that an ally of Attorney General Jeff Sessions who is familiar with the goings on at the DOJ’s headquarters described the department's new endeavor as an effort to gather new details on how Clinton and her aides handled classified material.
Some of the "new" avenues of questioning the investigation will tackle include how much classified information was sent over Clinton’s server, who put that information into an unclassified environment and how and which investigators knew about these matters and when. There are also going to be queries into the immunity agreements that Clinton aides may have made.
You can bet that DOJ officials are keenly aware of Donald Trump's desire that they look into Clinton’s use of a private email server and that they lock up her top aide, Huma Abedin as evidenced by this Jan. 2nd tweet...
And this one posted just two hours later...
There is no doubt that Trump has been on them to keep a steady beat of Clinton email "news" coming out to obfuscate from his own legal woes.
Just last week the State Department released a whole new batch of emails, in response to a lawsuit from the conservative group Judicial Watch, showing that classified material was on the computer of Abedin’s then-husband Anthony Weiner.
The Daily Beast reported that Justice Department officials had been looking into the Clinton emails before those documents were released most likely per Trump's request.
The article quotes Brian Fallon, formerly a spokesperson for the Justice Department and Clinton’s presidential campaign, saying the he suspected that DOJ officials were engaging in hastily put together releases about the emails...
“to give Trump and his allies something to talk about and point to, and something to give Fox News to devote segments to,”
In addition Matt Miller, a spokesperson for the department during Eric Holder’s time there, vehemently disagreed saying Trump's...
“...ongoing campaign to tear down the wall between the Justice Department and the White House seems to be working. If the White House asks you to look into it, the answer is not to look into it for the sake of looking into it, the answer is to tell the White House to stay out of investigations and prosecutions, especially when it comes to your political opponents”
Meanwhile, the DOJ is conveniently overlooking the fact that at least six White House advisers, including Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, have used private email accounts.
Do not doubt that as long as Special Counsel Robert Mueller is digging into Trump's ties to Russia, financial and otherwise, he will be having his Attorney General Jeff Sessions and the Department of Justice acting as a personal smoke machine.
