On Thursday Trump tried to escape the white hot spotlight of disgust being shone on him over his "zero tolerance" border policy by shielding himself with the parents of loved ones lost to violence.
For the event Trump paraded parents whose children were killed by undocumented immigrants as he railed against immigrants and called for even harsher border security.
The move was meant to mute the immense backlash he is facing for separating immigrant children from their families at the U.S./Mexico border and then housing them in understaffed detention centers set up like dog kennels.
At the staged event Trump never once referenced the uproar over shelters where about 2,400 children have been detained separately from their parents for weeks if not months.
He did however do his best to demonize and dehumanize the immigrant families attempting to seek refuge in the U.S. from their violence ridden countries by exploiting the victims that flanked him on stage...
“These are the American citizens permanently separated from their loved ones. The word ‘permanently’ being the word that you have to think about. Permanently. They’re not separated for a day or two days. They are permanently separated,”
The reference to "permanence" no doubt refers to the court case filed by his administration on Thursday which seeks the right to legally lock up migrant children with their parents indefinitely.
He then shared his opinion of the immigrants trying to seek legal status in our country...
"You hear it's like they're better people than what we have, than our citizens. It's not true,"
Trump then proceeded to spew a newly fabricated lie, apparently pulled straight from his ass, that undocumented immigrants are more dangerous than the general population citing that 63,000 Americans have been killed by undocumented immigrants since the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks...
“Sixty-three thousand Americans since 9/11 have been killed by illegal aliens. This isn’t a problem that’s going away, it’s getting bigger,”
When the White House was asked where Trump's false statistics came from they did not respond to those requests or whether he would at some point correct the record.
If you were wondering the truth is that undocumented immigrants are less likely to commit crimes than the the documented Americans.
But the final indignity was yet to come.
As Trump surrounded himself with the families of people who’ve been killed by undocumented immigrants whom he refers to as “Angel Parents” the press noticed something odd.
The oversized photos of their loved that the families who stood on stage with Trump were emblazoned with his autograph scrawled with his tell-tale oversized sharpie marker...
Who does that!?!?!
Does he think the families will display the painful reminders as treasured keepsakes now that is bears his signature?
Leave it to Trump to make even the deaths of innocent Americans all about himself.
