WATCH: President Obama Delivers A Powerful Speech Commemorating Nelson Mandela's 100 Birthday And Addressing World Events (FULL VIDEO)

President Barack Obama delivered a heartfelt and timely speech on Tuesday at an event in Africa to commemorate the late Nelson Mandela's 100 birthday.

In what was Obama's first visit to Africa since leaving office he praised the civil right's leader who was imprisoned for 27 years for attempting to end apartheid in Africa...

"I believe in a vision of equality and justice and freedom and multiracial democracy built on the premise that all people are created equal. They are endowed by our creator with certain inalienable rights. I believe that a world governed by such principle is possible and it can achieve more peace and more cooperation in pursuit of a common good. That’s what I believe. I believe we have no choice but to move forward. Madiba shows that those of use who believe in freedom in democracy, we’re going to have to fight harder to reduce inequality and promote lasting economic opportunity for all people.

But he also spoke of the crisis we are experiencing here in the U.S. all without naming names...

"Given the strange and uncertain times that we are in – and they are strange – and they are uncertain – with each day's news cycles bringing more head-spinning and disturbing headlines, I thought maybe it would be useful to step back for a moment and try to get some perspective,"

In another section of his speech he attacked the rise of authoritarian leaders...

And a politics of fear and of resentment and retrenchment began to appear. And that kind of politics is now on the move. It’s on a move at a pace that would have seemed unimaginable just a few years ago. Look around. Strongman politics are ascendant, suddenly, whereby elections and some pretense of democracy are maintained, the form of it, but those in power seek to undermine every institution or norm that gives democracy meaning.

He also spoke of the attacks on the free press...

Many developing countries now are looking at China’s model of authoritarian control combined with mercantilist capitalism as preferable to the messiness of democracy. Who needs free speech as long as the economy is going good? The free press is under attack. Censorship and state control of media is on the rise. Social media, once seen as a mechanism to promote knowledge and understanding and solidarity, has proven to be just as effective at promoting hatred and paranoia and propaganda and conspiracy theories,

Obama also spoke of politicians who lie without remorse...

Politicians have always lied, but it used to be if you caught them lying, they’d be like, ‘Aw, man,’. But now if you catch them lying, they’ll just keep on lying!

It was all too clear whom he was referring to.
