Questions And Answers About Ted Cruz's Fake Filibuster

Ted Cruz just "spoke" on the Senate floor for 21 hours. There are many questions as to why he did it and to what end. Let's try to answer some of them right now.

Who is Ted Cruz?

Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz was born in Calgary, Canada on December 22, 1970. He is the junior United States Senator for the state of Texas. He was elected to the senate in 2013. Cruz is a member of the GOP but is often referred to as a "Tea Party Republican".

Did Ted Cruz really speak on the Senate floor for 21 hours?

No. By the Senates rules Cruz was allowed to take breaks as other members of the house asked him "questions" which could last as long as they wanted. Several "Tea Party" members of the house did just this allowing Cruz to rest, and take care of any "activities" that needed tending to.

Was what Cruz did a filibuster?

The speech, which was not technically a filibuster because it did not delay any votes and was instead  labeled an "extended oratory". Though Cruz still referred to it as a filibuster.

It was in essence nothing but political theater.

What did Ted Cruz say his reason was for speaking on the Senate floor for 21 hours?

The Republicans in the Congress passed a bill saying in effect that if funding for Obamacare wasn't cut they would shut down the government. Cruz was claiming his (fake) filibuster was to stop the Senate from voting on the spending bill so no one could strip out the Republicans provision that would defund Obamacare.

What Cruz failed to mention was that procedurally the rules plainly stated that he had to stop his "extended oratory" at 12:00pm as was agreed upon by him and Senate majority leader (and Democrat) Harry Reid. This time was arrived at so the Senate could vote on the bill Cruz was supposedly filibustering.

Therefore even if Cruz had not spoken a word all night it was agreed in advance by him and Reid that the vote would still take place.

What was Cruz's real reason for speaking on the Senate floor for 21 hours then?

Pure ego driven self aggrandizement.  It was nothing more than naked ambition to further his aspirations to be the president.

Did Ted Cruz really compare The Affordable Health Care Act to Nazi Germany and those who agree with the program Nazi sympathizers?

Yes, here is what he said...

"If you go to the 1940s, Nazi Germany. Look, we saw in Britain, Neville Chamberlain, who told the British people, 'Accept the Nazis. Yes, they'll dominate the continent of Europe but that's not our problem. Let's appease them. Why? Because it can't be done. We can't possibly stand against them.'"

Here is a video of him of it thanks to TPMtv...

*This is what they call breaking Godwin's law, also known as Godwin's Rule of Nazi Analogies.

Did Ted Cruz really read Dr. Seuss' "Green Eggs and Ham"?

Yes. Here is a video of him doing so...

After Ted Cruz's fake filibuster how did the vote on the Senate bill come out?

After Cruz's epic bladder-busting talk-a-thon the senate voted 100-to-0 to take up the spending bill.

Wait a second… 100 to 0. Doesn't that mean Ted Cruz voted yes on the very bill he was just fake filibustering?

Yes. Yes it does.
