Yesterday it was revealed that on June 9th, 2016 Donald Trump Jr. met with Natalia Veselnitskaya, a Russian lawyer with ties to the Kremlin, in the hopes of receiving information that was damaging to his father's political rival Hillary Clinton.
Late last night, in a new bombshell report, the New York Times says Trump Jr. was told in an email that the meeting he admitted to attending for the sole purpose of obtaining information damaging to Clinton was connected to intelligence gathered by the Russian government. Furthermore the email alerted Trump Jr. that the purpose of the information gathered by the Russian government was to help get his father elected.
The Times, who citied multiple people with knowledge of the communication said the email was sent by publicist Rob Goldstone, who initially set up the meeting between Trump Jr. and Veselnitskaya.
This means that Trump Jr., along with his brother-in-law, Jared Kushner, and his father’s then-campaign chairman Paul Manafort, took the meeting with the full knowledge that they would be receiving damaging information about Hillary Clinton from Russian intelligence that was illegally obtained to help Donald Trump's chances to get elected.
This is the EXACT thing the Trump campaign has claimed never happened, was "fake news" and was "neither productive nor patriotic" to even suggest such a thing!
Legal experts have said Trump Jr.’s actions could very well be illegal, as campaign finance laws prohibit political candidates and their associates from obtaining anything of value (*not necessarily monetary) to aid their campaign from foreign nationals.
Robert Muller, who was named special counsel for the Russia investigation is said to be very interested in the findings and how they relate to his investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow to sway the 2016 election.
